The Circus of Dark & Light Rehearsals

Take a sneaky peek at The Circus of Dark & Light rehearsals in Dufferin Grove Park:

‘The Circus of Dark and Light’ begins July 15th!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Madames et Monsieurs, boys and squirrels, are you ready for the revolution? Drum roll, please…This summer Clay & Paper Theatre presents:

The Circus of Dark & Light,

A subversive comedy featuring puppets, live music, and special appearances by a human cannonball, a pyrophobic fire-breather and a truly elegant ersatz elephant.

Welcome to CIRCUS SCAMALOT, currently on tour with Prime Minister Nobody and under the tiny thumb of Little Big Man. Can a bedraggled bunch of clowns, a cowardly ringmaster and a hard-nosed high wire beauty queen band together to break out of oppression, galvanize hope and take control of their own lives? Come join our unlikely heroes and discover how the magic of community can change the world.

Most evening performances will also feature a pre-show by our hit bicycle-based theatre troupe; CYCLOPS: Cycling Oriented Puppet Squad.

PLUS: Performances with touch tours and Integrative Descriptive Dialogue: August 11 – 15. Touch tours start an hour before each show!

Stay tuned for show dates with American Sign Language Interpretation!

We need assistance in Toronto’s Dufferin Grove Park, a neighbourhood of community-minded people as we put on our summer show “The Circus of Dark & Light”! We need help with front-of-house, money-catching, organizing, crowd-wrangling, set-up, and clean-up.

We’ve even come up with a contest to sweeten the deal. Volunteer for 3 or more shifts and you will be entered in our draw for a Volunteer Prize Pack.

Just think of the perks:

Introducing . . . The ‘A’ Team!

Clay & Paper Theatre is as pleased as punch to introduce you to the four newest additions to our organization who form what can only be described as The ‘A’ Team:

(cue theme song)

Bernadette Wycks is a community educator, puppeteer, and activist who has volunteered extensively with Clay & Paper Theatre. Bernadette joins us as Artistic Associate: Programming and General Administration where she will pull off such amazing feats as juggling Clay & Paper’s many creative endeavours without dropping a single ball!

Larissa Koniuk is an accomplished fundraiser and talented vocalist. She brings her considerable experience, talent, and verve to the Clay & Paper team as Development Associate; raising funds and building relationships to spread the love of Puppets far and wide.

Naomi Tessler is a wordsmith, actor, director, producer, and all-round theatre ace. As PTTP Intern: Producing Day of Delight and The Circus of Dark & Light she will be making magic happen in front of and behind the scenes in Dufferin Grove Park.

Leanne Eisen is a visual artist, web junkie, and regular Clay & Paper volunteer who will combine her passions for art and advocacy while working with Clay & Paper Theatre and CYCLOPS as Artistic Associate: Online Media and Communications. Leanne would also like to let you know that she is not quite as severe as her scowling photo might suggest. Stop by for a visit and see.
