Democracy
Fall/Winter 1998 Conceived by Julia von Flotow; Written by David Anderson
and Julia von Flotow, Directed by Julia von Flotow; Music by David Anderson.
"Democracy" was a ten minute outdoor show produced by DragonTime Productions
to highlight the fight against the horrible Mega-City Bill 103, sponsored
by Citizens for Local Democracy. Democracy was presented in parks, shopping
centres, city halls and Toronto's Massey Hall, Fall/Winter 1998.
Designed for the politically apathetic, indifferent or confused, Democracy
featured the Spirit of Democracy, Mike Harris and his bus, Mega City Bill,
the Mayor, the Child of Courage, a Squeegie Kid, and a streetwise philosopher.
We lost that battle ... the provincial government had already passed the wildly
unpopular and undemocratic "Omnibus Bill" and we did not prevent
Toronto from becoming a "mega-city". But mushrooms have been know
to grow through cement sidewalks.
